Ocado Engineering has been shortlisted for prestigious national award

Ocado Engineering has been shortlisted for prestigious national award

Earlier this year, I was very fortunate to visit one of our state-of-the-art Ocado Smart Platform Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) in Andover, Hampshire. I decided to take a camera with me to try and capture the complexity of these systems in a single shot for the prestigious EEF photography competition, which aimed to highlight exciting manufacturing and engineering projects from the UK.

The EEF is the manufacturers’ organisation and the representative voice of UK manufacturing. They collectively represent 20,000 companies and over 5,000 businesses. Their mission is to help British manufacturers compete, innovate and grow nationally and on the global stage.

The EEF manufacturing photography competition was created to raise the profile of modern day UK manufacturing by showcasing the industry’s creativity, diversity and heritage through inspiring photography. This year’s shortlisted photographs portray the various stages of manufacturing – from design, process and technology in action through to the finished product – and cover both traditional and high-tech sectors.

I’m delighted to have two photographs (included below) shortlisted and honoured that they were on display at an awards ceremony in the House of Commons. I really hope my photographs go a small way to changing people’s perceptions of UK manufacturing and of Ocado as an innovative online retailer and engineering powerhouse.

Here is what Stephen Phipson CBE, CEO of EEF, had to say about our entries: “From investing in the future by providing high-quality apprenticeships to standing right at the forefront of the fourth industrial revolution, manufacturing is the perfect illustration of British ingenuity, creativity and innovation. All the talented photographers shortlisted this year are to be congratulated on their incredible images that brilliantly reflect the dynamism of our sector.”
